General Information

Users enjoy using Ukash because it is easy and there are no age restrictions. No credit or debit cards are needed and you don't even have to share any personal or financial details. Companies benefit from us because we open up new markets to which they can sell their goods and services online. Many people don't have credit or debit cards, or even bank accounts, and some are simply reluctant to give their financial details online. A company that accepts Ukash as an alternative way to pay for its goods and services on its website attracts customers who want to pay by cash only. Expanding fast We will be making Ukash available right across Europe and beyond over the coming months. Ukash was recently launched in South Africa. Regulation and compliance Ukash is operated by Smart Voucher Ltd. which is regulated by the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) as an Electronic Money Institution ( ELMI ). This regulatory framework has been passported to all countries in which we operate, by agreement of the local regulator. Patented Technology The technology behind Ukash is protected by several patents registered across the Smart Voucher database and functionality and is as such protected by Patent Law in all the major economies of the world, including the UK, South Africa, China and Australia.

Information for developers

Why offer Ukash as an online payment option?     * Eliminate charge backs and other fraud     * Sell to customers requiring identity protection     * Reach customers without debit or credit cards     * Attract  customers worried about using their cards online     * Increase sales by acquiring those cash customers you currently exclude     * As an alternative for customers with declined card payments Payments that drive business growth Ukash enables online merchants in any sector to provide the same level of choice as their offline counterparts by being able to safely accept payments from those consumers that you've previously been unable to reach.     * Many people still won't buy online because they're concerned about giving out their financial details.     * Others don't have cards that can be accepted online.     * A surprising number of your potential customers don't have any cards or even a bank account.     * Many consumers want to feel in control of their spending in these uncertain times. What is Ukash ? Easy to get and secure and simple to use, Ukash is enabling millions of consumers to transact online. Consumers get uniquely numbered Ukash vouchers from payment terminals found in newsagents, grocery stores, post offices and petrol forecourts across Europe and South Africa. In the UK they can also get a voucher straight to their Vodafone mobile at any time of the day or night. They then use the Ukash number to pay on the web, avoiding the need to provide any other financial details. There are no fees charged to get Ukash , meaning consumers can use the full amount of their Ukash when spending online.  They even get change, in the form of an instantly issued new Ukash voucher, if their purchase is for less than the value of the voucher. For merchants Ukash is an assured payment, just like taking cash in a shop. This avoids costly card chargebacks and eliminates card fraud.
