The recent spate of serious data breaches involving highly confidential credit card and identity data being compromised further frustrates an already deeply concerned online consumer community. It also yet again illustrates the need to move beyond traditionally popular real time payment processing systems and consider adopting new generation more secure solutions like e-Path.
Due to these continuing serious data breaches it is more than apparent that no matter how complex and costly the security defences the fact is there remains an inherent risk to the security of your highly sensitive credit card and identity data when paying online via credit card.
When paying by credit card utilising a real time online processing system, which is a method as old as e-commerce itself, credit card and identity data will be permanently stored within databases, storage appliances, data storage devices, systems and/or networks.
Whether cardholders like it or not their sensitive credit card and identity data is being permanently stored in some form or another by the credit card payment processing gateway. And it's this location, that if breached, can have catastrophic consequences for cardholders, online businesses and the whole credit card provider industry.
However, the immensely frustrating thing about this entire issue is the fact that since the new manual method, known as v-commerce (verifiable commerce), has become available, for example e-Path, credit card and identity data now DOES NOT NEED TO BE PERMANENTLY STORED online or in any database, storage appliance, storage device, system or network in order to enable consumers to pay by credit card online. It is a step forward of monumental proportions for security because Hackers and cyber criminals can not possibly thieve sensitive data if that data does not exist. Threat checkmated!
e-Path is the first payment gateway to introduce this new and extreme level of cardholder data security - where sensitive credit card and identity data is never permanently stored within the payment gateway systems either online or anywhere else for that matter and where every individual gateway merchant has their own separate and exclusive encryption systems and unique secure URL ... and we are proudly 100% Australian born and bred.
So, make no mistake about it, while the consumer community and indeed the entire credit card industry may cringe each time there is news of a serious credit card data breach the fact is if you paid an online business for a product or service that uses e-Path you can rest easy because no matter how successful the breach, hack or compromise is, your credit card and identity data is simply not there online to be stolen in the first place.
And if you are an online business then by offering your customers the opportunity to pay online via a payment gateway that will not be permanently storing credit card and identity data within its systems, such as e-Path, you will be offering a level of security to your online customers that can not possibly be matched by any alternative online real time credit card payment processing gateway service.
If you would like to learn how e-Path is helping to end the world wide scourge of sensitive credit card and identity data theft - which is actually powering the majority of the monumental credit card fraud crisis itself, then take a read through our section (albeit a rather lengthy 'rambling') called Is CDU Compliance the future of ecommerce?.
At the risk of repeating myself, the fact is the overwhelming majority of credit card and identity data theft in the world today does not need to happen.
... just a thought
